St. Anne's reading program is individualized to meet the needs of all students. Each year students’ reading levels are assessed with the STAR Early Literacy and STAR Reading tests. Using this information, students’ individual Accelerated Reading (AR) levels and goals are set. In lower elementary grades, the reading anthology Superkids promotes reading comprehension through integration of vocabulary study, phonics, spelling, grammar, and writing. St. Anne uses Zaner-Bloser’s Spelling Connections, a phonetic-based spelling curriculum for third through fifth grade students.
St. Anne's secondary language arts program exposes students to a wide variety of literary works and genres that includes (but is not limited to) : Novels, Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Essays, Biographies, Autobiographies, Fantasies, Fables, Mythology, Historical Fiction, Informational and Expository Text and finally Short Stories.
Students develop skills necessary for advanced literary analysis and composition implementing the different styles of writing. Throughout the grade levels, vocabulary is extended with Vocabulary Workshop.
